Welcome to Rivo Memberships

Rivo Memberships enables brands to earn recurring revenue by offering valuable benefits to their most loyal subscribers. Create customized membership tiers with flexible billing intervals and comprehensive benefits that drive customer loyalty and increase lifetime value.

Prerequisites: Rivo Memberships requires Shopify Payments to be enabled and configured. Make sure to enable Shopify Payments for your store before continuing (you can set it to test mode for testing purposes).


Setting Up Your Membership Program

Follow these comprehensive steps to create and launch your membership program.

1. Create Your Membership Tier

Navigate to the Memberships tab in your Rivo Loyalty dashboard to get started.

Basic Configuration

  1. Name your membership tier - Choose a descriptive name that reflects the value proposition (e.g., "VIP Club", "Premium Members", "Gold Tier")

  2. Set your pricing - Enter the recurring price members will pay for their subscription

  3. Choose billing interval - Select from available options:

    • Daily

    • Weekly

    • Monthly (most common)

    • Quarterly

    • Semi-annually

    • Annually

  4. Upload a tier icon - Add a visual representation of your membership tier that will appear on your landing page

  5. Toggle the Status to ON - This activates your membership tier

Shopify Product Setup

  1. Click "View in Shopify" to access the automatically created membership product

  2. Add a product image in Shopify to make your membership more appealing

  3. From "Purchase options" click "Only show this product with these purchase options" to ensure proper subscription handling

  4. The system automatically creates selling plans and customer segments for your membership

Earning Benefits

Set up special point-earning opportunities for your members:

  • Tier Unlocked Bonus - Award points when customers first join the membership

  • Recurring Signup Bonus - Give points for each subscription renewal

  • Anniversary Bonus - Reward members on their membership anniversary

  • Enhanced Order Points - Offer bonus points on purchases for members

Free Shipping

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Discounts and create a new Free Shipping discount

  2. Name the discount code MEMBERSHIPPING

  3. In "Customer eligibility", select "Specific customer segments"

  4. Choose the membership segment (automatically named after your membership tier)

  5. Save the discount - it will automatically apply to member orders

3. Customize Your Membership Landing Page

Create a compelling, on-brand membership experience with extensive customization options.

Visual Customization

  • Background Colors - Customize the main background and individual section backgrounds

Tip: Add a link to your memberships page in your header and footer navigation by visiting the menu settings in Shopify. This increases visibility and member acquisition.


Member Portal & Subscription Management

Your members have access to a comprehensive portal where they can manage their subscription and access their benefits.

Portal Features

  • Subscription Status - View current membership status and billing information

  • Benefits Access - See all available benefits and how to use them

  • Activity Tracking - Monitor membership activity and rewards earned

  • Credits Redemption - Redeem earned credits (if credits mode is enabled)

Member Authentication

Members access their portal by logging into their Shopify customer account. The system automatically recognizes membership status and displays the appropriate portal interface.


Email Notifications

Rivo Memberships automatically sends targeted email notifications to keep members informed about their subscription status.

Managing Members in Shopify

Rivo automatically creates and manages customer segments in Shopify for your membership program.

Customer Segments

Visit your Customer Segments in Shopify to view automatically created segments:

  • "Rivo Subscribers" - Contains all active membership subscribers

  • "Rivo Membership Tier: [Tier Name]" - Specific segment for each membership tier

Customer Tagging System

Members are automatically tagged with:

  • "Rivo Subscriber" - General membership tag

  • "Rivo Membership Tier: [Tier Name]" - Specific tier identification

These tags are used to determine benefit eligibility and are automatically managed by the system.


Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for membership programs.

Member Benefits Not Working

Check These Items:

  • Customer is logged in with the same email used to purchase membership

  • Customer has the correct tags: "Rivo Subscriber" and "Rivo Membership Tier: [Tier Name]"

  • Membership tier is enabled and active

  • Shopify segments are properly configured

  • Discount codes are set up with correct customer segment eligibility

Payment and Billing Issues

  • Payment Failures - Members receive automatic email notifications with instructions to update their payment method

  • Payment Method Updates - Members can request payment method update emails through their member portal

  • Billing Intervals - Ensure the correct billing interval is selected when creating membership tiers

Cancellation Policy

Memberships can be configured with different cancellation policies:

  • Immediate Cancellation - Benefits end immediately upon cancellation

  • End of Period - Benefits continue until the end of the current billing period

Landing Page Display Issues

  • Check that all required sections are enabled in the landing page settings

  • Verify custom CSS doesn't conflict with the page layout

Subscription Management

How do members cancel their subscription?
Members can cancel their subscriptions directly from the membership portal. They'll see a cancellation option in their member dashboard, and the system will show a confirmation dialog before processing the cancellation.

How do members update their payment method?
Members can request a payment method update email through their membership portal. The system will send them a secure link to update their payment information directly with Shopify.

What happens when a payment fails?
When a subscription payment fails, the member receives an automatic email notification with instructions to update their payment method. The membership benefits may be temporarily suspended until payment is resolved.

Can members pause their subscription?
Subscription pausing depends on your specific membership configuration. Members should contact support for assistance with subscription modifications.

Benefits & Access

I bought the membership - why can't I see the membership benefits?

  • Ensure you're logged into the Shopify store with the same email address used to purchase the membership

  • Check that you have the correct customer tags. For example, if your membership is called "GOLD MEMBERSHIP", you should be tagged with "Rivo GOLD MEMBERSHIP"

  • Allow up to 15 minutes for the system to process your membership and apply the appropriate tags

  • Clear your browser cache and try accessing the benefits again

How do I access my member portal?
Log into your customer account on the store website, then navigate to yourdomain.com/apps/ba-loy-dev/membership. The system will automatically recognize your membership status and display your member portal.

Why isn't my free shipping discount working?
Verify that the free shipping discount is properly configured in Shopify with the correct customer segment eligibility. The discount should be set to apply to the membership segment automatically created by Rivo.

How do I redeem my member credits?
If credits are enabled for your membership, you can redeem them through the member portal. Look for the credits redemption section in your member dashboard.

Billing & Pricing

What billing intervals are available?
Rivo Memberships supports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual billing intervals. Monthly and annual are the most commonly used options.

When will I be charged for my membership?
You'll be charged immediately upon signup, then according to your selected billing interval. You'll receive email confirmations for each successful payment.

Can I change my billing interval after signing up?
Billing interval changes typically require canceling your current membership and signing up for a new one with the desired interval. Contact support for assistance with this process.

Technical Questions

Why do I need Shopify Payments enabled?
Rivo Memberships uses Shopify's native subscription billing system, which requires Shopify Payments to be enabled. This ensures secure, reliable recurring billing and seamless integration with your store.

How are customer segments created?
Rivo automatically creates customer segments in Shopify when you set up your membership tiers. These segments are used to manage benefit eligibility and can be used for targeted marketing campaigns.

Can I customize the membership landing page?
Yes! Rivo offers extensive customization options including colors, fonts, section content, custom CSS, and the ability to enable/disable different sections. You can create a fully branded membership experience.

What happens to member data if I disable memberships?
Member data is preserved in Shopify, but active subscriptions should be properly cancelled before disabling the membership feature. Contact support before making significant changes to your membership program.

How many membership tiers can I create?
