Understanding Default Reward Value Rate in Points Settings

Your Reward value rate helps you understand how generous your points program is at a glance. It estimates how much value customers get back from your default earning and reward setup.

In a new setup, this often starts at 5% based on the standard points and reward defaults.

Where to find it

  1. In your Rivo admin, open Loyalty.

  2. Go to your Points settings page.

  3. Look for the Setup Overview card.

  4. Find Reward value rate.

How the default 5% is calculated

A typical default setup uses:

  • Earn rate: 1 point for every $1 spent

  • Default rewards: $5 off for 100 points, $10 off for 200 points, and $20 off for 400 points

Using the first reward tier as an example:

  • Customers spend $100 to earn 100 points

  • 100 points redeems for $5 off

  • $5 value back on $100 spend = 5% reward value rate

What changes the percentage

Your Reward value rate changes when you update either side of your points economy:

1. Earning rate changes

If customers earn points faster (for example, more points per $1 spent), the reward value rate goes up.

If customers earn points more slowly, the reward value rate goes down.

2. Reward cost or reward value changes

If rewards cost fewer points or give more discount value, the reward value rate goes up.

If rewards cost more points or give less discount value, the reward value rate goes down.

3. Reward used for the overview calculation

The setup overview rate is based on the reward used in your account’s overview calculation. In many setups, this is your lowest active points reward. If you change which reward is used, your displayed percentage can change.

Quick examples

  • Higher rate example: If customers still earn 1 point per $1, but 100 points gives $10 off, the reward value rate is 10%.

  • Lower rate example: If customers still earn 1 point per $1, but 100 points gives $2 off, the reward value rate is 2%.

FAQ

Why don’t I see Setup Overview?

This card may not appear in every setup. Common reasons include:

  • Your reward value rate is currently very high

  • Your order earning setup is incomplete or turned off

  • You don’t have an active points reward that can be used for the overview calculation

Is 5% the required setting?

No. It is a common starting point. You can tune your earning and reward settings based on your margin and retention goals.

Should I optimize for a higher reward value rate?

Not always. Higher rates can increase engagement, but they also increase program cost. Choose a level that balances customer motivation and profitability.
