Bulk Expire Customer Points or Credits
This guide explains how to reset multiple customer points or credits to zero using the bulk CSV adjustment tool in your Rivo admin.
If you need to give customers more time before their existing points or credits expire, use the expiration-date update workflow instead of resetting balances. See Move future per-event expiration dates below.
Overview
Go to Customers in your Rivo admin
In the top right, click ‘Adjust Total Points’ (or ‘Adjust Total Credits’ depending on your setup)
In the modal, click CSV Template to download the correct file format
Make sure your CSV includes these columns:
EmailPointsorCredits, depending on your setup
Set the points or credits value to 0 for every customer you want to expire
In the Import Type dropdown, choose: Reset existing customer balances
Add an internal or customer note if you’d like (optional)
Upload the CSV
You can track the progress of your CSV upload from the CSV Imports page in Settings here.
Changing expiration methods for a promotion
Switching between per-event and Bulk expiration does not rewrite expiration dates already assigned to earlier earning events. However, while Bulk is selected, a customer’s entire existing balance follows the Bulk calculation, along with any newly issued points or credits. Bulk expiration uses a number of months and customer activity; selecting it does not set every balance to a fixed promotion end date.
If you need eligible existing points or credits to expire on a specific future date, use the expiration-date update below while the matching per-event method is enabled. This is a separate action from changing the expiration method. For a promotion example showing what happens before, during, and after a temporary switch, see Changing credit expiration settings for a promotion.
Move future per-event expiration dates
Use this option when you want to extend or change the expiration date for existing per-event points or credits, without changing customer balances.
This is useful if customers received an expiration reminder but you want to give them a new redemption window, for example after a promotion or sale where points could not be used.
This option is available only when Per points event expiry or Per credits event expiry is enabled.
Go to Settings > CSV Imports
Set Data Type to Update Points/Credits Logs Expires At
Click Download Template
Fill out the CSV with these columns:
points_log_id- the ID of the points or credits event you want to updateexpires_at- the new expiration date, using a future date such as2026-12-31
Optional: select Include logs without an expiration date if you also want to assign an expiration date to eligible events that do not currently have one
Upload the CSV
Rivo updates eligible future expiration dates to the end of the selected date in your store’s timezone.
What the expiration-date update can and cannot change
The expiration-date update applies only to eligible earning events:
The points or credits event must belong to your store
The event must add points or credits, not deduct them
The new expiration date must be in the future
Events must have a future expiration date, or no expiration date if you selected Include logs without an expiration date
Past expiration dates are not reopened or changed
This workflow does not create or remove points, reset balances, or change already-expired events. If you want to remove balances immediately, use the reset-to-zero workflow at the top of this guide.
