What happens when a customer is deleted in Shopify?

When a customer is deleted in Shopify, Rivo removes that customer profile from your loyalty program view as well.

This means the customer is no longer available in your Customers list in Rivo, and you can no longer open their individual loyalty profile.

Quick answer

  • The deleted customer’s profile is removed from Rivo’s customer views.

  • Their individual loyalty profile and profile-level points history are no longer accessible.

  • Store-level loyalty reporting and transaction logs still keep historical activity for your reporting workflows.

What changes in Rivo after deletion

1) Customer profile and profile-level points history

After deletion in Shopify, the customer record is removed from your Rivo customer list.

Because of that, you can’t open that customer’s profile page to view their profile-level loyalty summary or points history.

2) Audit trail and store-level reporting

Historical loyalty transactions still remain available for store-level reporting.

You can review transaction records in Data Logs > Points.

In those logs, customer details may show as unavailable once the original profile is gone.

3) GDPR and data deletion requests

Shopify is the source of truth for customer deletion. If a customer requests erasure, process that deletion in Shopify first.

For broader privacy requests, use Rivo’s GDPR resources:

What if the customer is created again later?

If that shopper is created again in Shopify, they are treated as a new customer profile in Rivo.

Previous points are not automatically restored to the new profile.

If you want to re-issue value, you can do it manually:

Best practice before deleting a customer

If your finance or support team needs customer-level records for audits, export the relevant records before deletion.

That gives you a customer-linked copy for your own files before the profile is removed from customer views.
