Convert loyalty points to store credit with Shopify POS
Your retail staff can use the Rivo Loyalty tile in Shopify POS to convert a customer’s loyalty points into Shopify store credit. The credit is added to the customer’s Shopify store credit balance and can then be used through Shopify’s store credit payment experience.
This guide covers converting points to store credit. If your loyalty program already uses store credit as its main currency, store credit is redeemed directly from the cart instead.
Before you begin
Make sure:
Rivo Loyalty Rewards Referrals and the latest version of Shopify POS are installed
Your loyalty program is enabled and uses points as its currency
Your plan includes Shopify POS access
Shopify store credit is enabled for your Rivo account
You have created and enabled a POS Store Credit reward
If you do not see the POS Store Credit reward option, contact your Customer Success Manager or Rivo support to confirm that Shopify store credit is available for your account.
For the complete POS setup, including how to add the Rivo tile to your smart grid, see Shopify POS integration: Earn and spend points in-store.
Set up a POS Store Credit reward
From your Shopify admin, open Rivo Loyalty Rewards Referrals.
Go to Loyalty > Points.
Scroll to Redeeming Points and select Add Another Reward.
Under POS (In-Store), select Store Credit.
Choose how customers can convert their points:
Fixed amount — Customers exchange a set number of points for a set store credit amount.
Incremental amount — Staff enter how many points the customer wants to convert, using the increment and any minimum or maximum you configure.
Save and enable the reward.
For incremental rewards, the entered amount is applied in complete increments. For example, if the reward converts points in 200-point increments, entering 450 points converts 400 points. The customer must have enough points for the converted amount.
Convert a customer’s points in Shopify POS
Open Shopify POS and add the customer to the cart.
Tap the Rivo Loyalty tile.
Review the customer’s points balance and available promotions.
Select the POS Store Credit reward:
For a fixed reward, tap the reward to convert the configured number of points.
For an incremental reward, enter the amount of points to convert, then confirm the redemption.
After a successful conversion, Shopify POS shows Store credit added! The customer’s points are deducted and the matching amount is added to their Shopify store credit balance.
The conversion adds store credit to the customer; it does not apply a discount to the current cart. The customer can use their Shopify store credit through Shopify’s store credit payment experience.
Find or identify a customer
The Rivo Loyalty tile needs a customer before it can show a balance or rewards.
Add an existing customer to the cart in Shopify POS.
Create a customer profile and add it to the cart.
If the customer has a supported wallet pass, use the scan option in the Rivo Loyalty screen to identify them.
After a customer is attached, the tile shows their balance and the number of rewards available to them.
Eligibility and limits
A POS Store Credit reward appears only when:
The customer is eligible to participate in your loyalty program
The reward is enabled
The customer has enough points
The amount meets the reward’s configured increment, minimum, and maximum
Troubleshooting
No customer information appears
Add a customer to the cart, then reopen the Rivo Loyalty tile. You can also use the scan option when the customer has a supported wallet pass.
The POS Store Credit reward does not appear
Confirm that the customer is eligible for your loyalty program, the reward is enabled, and the customer has enough points. Also confirm that your Rivo account has Shopify POS and Shopify store credit enabled.
The amount cannot be converted
For an incremental reward, enter a positive amount that meets the configured minimum and maximum. The amount is converted in complete increments, and the customer must have enough points.
Shopify POS shows “Failed to add store credit”
Check the customer’s available points and the reward limits, then try again. If the conversion continues to fail, contact Rivo support with the customer and reward details.
The customer received store credit, but no discount was added to the cart
This is expected. The conversion adds value to the customer’s Shopify store credit balance instead of creating a cart discount.
