Display loyalty balances as store credit in the widget
Rivo can show your loyalty program as a points-based program or as a store credit/cashback program.
When store credit is enabled, customer-facing loyalty balances display as currency values, such as $20.00, instead of points, such as 2,000 points. This can make your loyalty value easier for customers to understand because they can see the direct dollar value available to spend.
How it works
The Customer Balance Preference setting controls whether your loyalty program uses:
Points - Customers earn and redeem points.
Store Credit / Cashback - Customers earn and redeem store credit values.
When you choose Store Credit / Cashback, Rivo updates the customer-facing loyalty experience to use store credit balances and currency formatting. This applies to loyalty surfaces such as the floating widget, account widget, loyalty page, earning activity, reward redemption, and balance expiration messaging.
This is a Rivo setting, so you do not need custom theme work just to show the balance as a dollar value.
Where to configure it
In Rivo, go to Settings > General.
Find Customer Balance Preference.
Choose Store Credit / Cashback.
Save your changes.
If you do not see Customer Balance Preference, contact your Customer Success Manager or Rivo support. This setting may need to be enabled for your account before it appears.
What customers will see
After store credit is enabled, logged-in customers will see their available loyalty balance as a currency amount in supported storefront experiences.
For example:
Instead of You have 2,000 points, customers may see You have $20.00 in store credit.
Earning and redemption activity can show store credit amounts instead of point amounts.
Expiration messaging uses the store credit expiration date when credit expiration is enabled.
The exact wording depends on your widget, account, and translation settings.
Before switching an active program
If your loyalty program is already live, plan the switch before turning this on. Customers may notice that their balance, earning activity, and rewards are presented differently.
Before launch, review:
Your customer-facing widget and account wording
Your Ways to Earn and Ways to Redeem setup
Your store credit expiration settings, if you use expiration
Any email, SMS, or onsite copy that describes points
Your customer communication plan for explaining the change
If you are converting an existing points program to store credit, coordinate the timing with your Customer Success Manager or Rivo support so the customer experience is clear.
Store credit display vs. points-to-cash display
Rivo also has a separate Points to Cash Conversion Rate setting. That setting helps display the estimated cash value of points in some areas, but it does not switch the loyalty program itself from points to store credit.
Use Customer Balance Preference when you want the program to operate and display as store credit/cashback.
Use Points to Cash Conversion Rate when you still want to keep a points program but show customers an estimated cash value for those points.
Common questions
Does this require custom theme work?
No. The storefront display is controlled by your Rivo settings.
Will the widget immediately show dollar values?
Once the setting is saved and your storefront settings update, supported Rivo storefront experiences use store credit balances and currency formatting.
Can I keep using points instead?
Yes. Choose Points in Customer Balance Preference to keep your loyalty program points-based.
Should I switch this on without telling customers?
For a live program, we recommend planning the change and communicating it clearly. Customers may be used to seeing points, so a sudden switch to store credit values can create questions.
