How to connect Rivo with Awtomic

  1. From the Rivo Dashboard, go to Integrations

  2. Find Awtomic in the integrations list and click Configure

  3. Enter your Awtomic Private API Key in the provided field

  4. Click Save to establish the connection

  5. Toggle the integration to Enabled to activate the connection

  6. Optionally, enable Auto-apply advocate discounts to active subscriptions for automatic referral reward application

πŸ“ Note: You'll need your Awtomic Private API Key to complete the setup. See the Finding your Awtomic API Key section below for detailed instructions.

Awarding points for subscription orders

Once the Awtomic integration is enabled and connected, customers will automatically earn points for subscription orders placed through Awtomic, just like they do for regular one-time purchases. This includes:

  • Initial subscription orders: Points are awarded when customers first subscribe to a product

  • Recurring subscription orders: Points are earned on each billing cycle renewal

  • Subscription modifications: Points are awarded when customers upgrade or modify their subscriptions

The points earned follow your existing earning rules configured in the Points program. No additional setup is required - the integration automatically recognizes subscription orders and applies your standard point-earning logic.

Setting up rewards for subscription orders

Create rewards that customers can redeem specifically for subscription purchases, encouraging them to use their points on recurring orders:

  1. Go to Programs > Points

  2. In the Redeeming Points section, click Add Another Reward

  3. Choose your reward type:

    • Fixed Amount: A specific dollar amount off (e.g., $10 off)

    • Percentage Off: A percentage discount (e.g., 15% off)

    • Free Shipping: Complimentary shipping on subscription orders

  4. In the Purchase Type section, select:

    • Subscription: Reward can only be used on subscription purchases

    • Both: Reward can be used on both one-time and subscription purchases

  5. Configure the Recurring Payment Options:

    • Enter a number (1-24) to limit how many billing cycles the discount applies

    • Enter 0 for unlimited recurring applications

  6. Set the points cost and any other reward details

  7. Click Create Reward to save your subscription reward

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip: Consider creating subscription-exclusive rewards with higher value to incentivize customers to use their points on recurring purchases, which increases customer lifetime value.

Auto-applying referral discounts on subscriptions

This powerful feature automatically applies advocate referral discounts to their active Awtomic subscriptions when a referral is completed. This ensures advocates receive their rewards seamlessly without needing to manually apply discount codes to their subscriptions.

How it works

  1. An advocate shares their referral link with a friend

  2. The friend makes a qualifying purchase using the referral link

  3. The referral is marked as completed in Rivo

  4. Rivo automatically finds the advocate's most recent active subscription in Awtomic

  5. The advocate's referral discount code is automatically applied to that subscription

  6. The advocate receives their reward on their next billing cycle

Enabling auto-apply

To enable this feature:

  1. Go to Integrations > Awtomic

  2. Ensure your Awtomic integration is connected and enabled

  3. Check the box for Auto-apply advocate discounts to active subscriptions

  4. Click Save to activate the feature

πŸ“ Important: Auto-apply only works when advocates have active subscriptions in Awtomic. If an advocate doesn't have an active subscription, the discount code will be available for manual use but won't be automatically applied.

Troubleshooting

Referral discount not automatically applied

If an advocate's referral discount isn't being automatically applied to their subscription, check the following:

  • Active subscription required: The advocate must have at least one active subscription in Awtomic

  • Valid discount code: Ensure the referral program is properly configured and generating discount codes

  • Integration enabled: Verify that both the Awtomic integration and auto-apply feature are enabled

  • API connection: Check that your Awtomic API key is valid and the integration status shows as connected

Points not earned on subscription orders

If customers aren't earning points on subscription orders:

  • Integration status: Ensure the Awtomic integration is enabled and connected

  • Earning rules: Verify your Points program has earning rules configured for purchases

  • Order processing: Allow up to 24 hours for subscription orders to be processed and points to be awarded

  • Customer enrollment: Confirm the customer is enrolled in your loyalty program

Subscription rewards not available for redemption

If customers can't redeem rewards on subscription purchases:

  • Purchase type setting: Ensure the reward's purchase type is set to "Subscription" or "Both"

  • Points balance: Verify the customer has enough points to redeem the reward

  • Reward status: Check that the reward is active and not expired

  • Subscription compatibility: Confirm the customer is making a subscription purchase, not a one-time purchase

Finding your Awtomic API Key

To connect Rivo with Awtomic, you'll need your Private API Key from your Awtomic account:

  1. Log into your Awtomic dashboard

  2. Navigate to your account settings or developer/API section

  3. Look for "API Keys" or "Private API Key"

  4. Copy your Private API Key (it should start with a series of letters and numbers)

  5. Return to Rivo and paste the key into the Awtomic integration settings

  6. Click Save to establish the connection

For detailed instructions on accessing your API key, visit the Awtomic API documentation.

πŸ”’ Security Note: Keep your API key secure and never share it publicly. If you suspect your API key has been compromised, generate a new one in your Awtomic dashboard and update it in Rivo.

Important considerations

  • API key requirement: A valid Awtomic Private API Key is required for the integration to function properly

  • Active subscriptions only: Auto-apply functionality only works with customers who have active subscriptions in Awtomic

  • Discount timing: Referral discounts are applied automatically after a referral is completed, with a brief processing delay

  • Subscription app dependency: This integration requires Awtomic to be properly installed and configured in your Shopify store

  • Billing cycle application: Subscription discounts typically apply to the next billing cycle, not retroactively

  • Single subscription targeting: Auto-apply targets the customer's most recent active subscription if they have multiple subscriptions

Frequently asked questions

Can customers earn points on both the initial subscription order and recurring orders?

Yes, customers earn points on both the initial subscription purchase and each recurring billing cycle, following your configured earning rules.

What happens if an advocate has multiple active subscriptions?

The auto-apply feature will apply the referral discount to the advocate's most recent active subscription. If you need the discount applied to a different subscription, the customer can manually apply the discount code.

Can I create different rewards for subscription vs. one-time purchases?

Yes, you can create rewards that are exclusive to subscriptions by setting the purchase type to "Subscription" only, or create rewards that work for both purchase types by selecting "Both".

How long does it take for referral discounts to be automatically applied?

Referral discounts are typically applied within a few minutes after a referral is completed. There may be a brief processing delay to ensure the discount code is properly generated.

What if a customer's subscription is paused or cancelled?

Auto-apply only works with active subscriptions. If a subscription is paused or cancelled, the discount code will still be available for the customer to use manually when they reactivate their subscription or make other purchases.

Can I control how many billing cycles a subscription discount applies to?

Yes, when creating subscription rewards, you can set the recurring payment options to specify how many billing cycles the discount applies to (1-24 cycles, or unlimited with 0).

Do I need to have Awtomic installed to use this integration?

Yes, this integration requires Awtomic to be properly installed and configured in your Shopify store. You'll also need an active Awtomic account with API access.

What types of rewards work with subscription purchases?

Fixed amount discounts, percentage discounts, and free shipping rewards all work with subscription purchases when configured with the appropriate purchase type settings.
