Wallet Pass QR Scanning in Shopify POS

Wallet pass QR scanning lets your team identify customers at checkout without asking for their email address first.

When enabled, a quick scan can attach the customer to the POS cart so staff can move straight to loyalty actions.




How It Works

Once setup is complete:

  • Your customer shows their wallet pass QR code.

  • A store associate scans it from the Rivo Loyalty tile in Shopify POS.

  • The customer is attached to the cart.

  • Loyalty promotions for that customer become available in the POS flow.

This supports faster in-store checkouts and a smoother loyalty experience for repeat shoppers.




Setup

1. Set your wallet pass QR code to customer identification

  1. In Rivo, go to Wallet Passes > Settings.

  2. In QR Code Type, select Customer ID (POS Identification).

  3. Save changes.

This makes the wallet pass QR code usable for customer lookup at POS.

2. Add the Rivo Loyalty tile to Shopify POS

In Shopify POS, add the Rivo POS extension tile to your smart grid so staff can open the scanner and loyalty promotions.

3. Optional: Show an extra in-store QR on the account widget profile page (mobile)

You can also show an in-store sign-in QR code inside the customer’s account widget profile view on mobile devices.

  1. In Rivo, open Account Widget Settings.

  2. In Profile Settings, enable Enable POS Sign-In QR.

  3. Save changes.

This gives customers another scannable code even when they are viewing their account widget instead of their wallet app.




In-Store Checkout Flow

  1. In Shopify POS, open the Rivo Loyalty tile.

  2. Scan the customer’s wallet pass QR code.

  3. Confirm the customer is attached to the cart.

  4. Apply any eligible loyalty promotion.

  5. Complete checkout.




Tips

  • Ask customers to keep their wallet pass easy to access before they reach checkout.

  • Train staff to scan from the Rivo tile first when a customer says they use your loyalty program.

  • Keep email lookup as a backup for customers who do not have a wallet pass yet.




FAQ

Does this replace email lookup completely?
Not always. It gives you a faster option when customers have a wallet pass ready to scan.

Can customers still earn and redeem in-store if they are found another way?
Yes. QR scanning is an identification shortcut, not a separate loyalty program.

Can I show a scannable code inside the account widget too?
Yes. Enable POS Sign-In QR in account widget profile settings.

What if a scan does not attach a customer?
Check that the wallet pass QR code type is set to Customer ID (POS Identification) and confirm the Rivo POS tile is installed on the device/location being used.
