Community Challenges: How to Set Up Photo-Upload Earning Rules

Community Challenges let you reward customers for submitting photos that match a challenge you define.

This setup has two parts:

  • A Challenge (what customers should submit)

  • A Way to earn (how many points they get when approved)

Before You Start

Community Challenges are currently available for selected stores.

If you do not see challenge photo options in your admin, contact support to confirm availability for your account.

Part 1: Create a Challenge

  1. In your Rivo admin, go to Challenges.

  2. Click New Challenge.

  3. Complete the challenge settings:

  • Name: Customer-facing challenge name.

  • Description: Internal notes for your team.

  • AI Prompt: Describe what a valid photo should show.

  • Approval Threshold: Minimum match score from 0-100.

  • Starts At / Ends At: Optional challenge window.

  • Shopify Segment: Optional customer eligibility filter.

  • Status: Set to active when ready to launch.

Part 2: Create the Matching Way to Earn

  1. Go to Programs > Points.

  2. Click Add Another Way to Earn.

  3. Choose Upload challenge photo.

  4. Select the challenge you created.

  5. Set the points amount.

  6. Configure any advanced limits you want.

  7. Save and activate the way to earn.

For advanced limits and scheduling options, see Ways to Earn: Advanced Settings.

What Customers Experience

  1. Customers see your challenge as a way to earn in the loyalty experience.

  2. If they are not logged in, they are prompted to log in first.

  3. They open the challenge tile, attach an image, and submit.

  4. They receive a success confirmation that their photo will be reviewed.

Customers can submit one photo per challenge per day.

How Review and Approval Works

After submission, each photo is scored against your challenge prompt and moves through a status flow:

  • Rejected automatically: Score is below your approval threshold.

  • Approved automatically: Score meets the threshold and risk signals are low.

  • Pending review: Score meets the threshold but needs manual review.

When a photo is approved (automatically or manually), points are added to the customer’s balance.

Review Queue for Your Team

To review submissions, go to Uploaded Challenge Photos.

You can view each submission with:

  • Customer information

  • Current status (pending, approved, rejected)

  • Scoring details and confidence data

  • Suggested action

  • Submitted image preview

From the submission page, your team can approve or reject pending items.

FAQ

Does an approval threshold of 0 auto-approve everything?

No. A threshold of 0 removes score-based rejection, but submissions can still stay pending if they need manual review.

When are points granted?

Points are granted when the submission is approved.

Can customers submit multiple photos in one day?

Each customer can submit one photo per challenge per day.
