Set up Wallet Pass geo-location (proximity) notifications
Wallet Pass proximity notifications let customers see their pass when they are physically near one of your store locations. This helps them quickly open their pass to check their points or credit balance while they shop.
This is a Wallet app experience, not a standard push campaign. Apple and Google decide the exact timing and display behavior based on each customer’s device settings.
On Apple Wallet, your default and per-location notification text is used. On Google Wallet, location-based pass behavior is supported, but custom proximity message text may not appear the same way.
Before You Start
Your customer must already have your Wallet Pass installed.
Location services for Wallet need to be enabled on the customer’s device.
Some stores may not see the Store Locations section yet. If it is missing, contact support and we can help enable it.
Enable Proximity Notifications
Go to Rivo admin → Wallet Pass → Settings.
In Store Locations, turn on Enable proximity notifications.
Set Default Notification Text.
Save your changes.
The default text supports these merge tags:
{{balance}}{{shop_name}}{{domain}}
If a location does not have its own notification text, this default text is used (Apple Wallet behavior).
Add Store Locations
In the same Store Locations section, click Add Location for each store and fill in:
Name
Address
Latitude
Longitude
Notification Text (optional override for that location)
Save when you’re done.
Location limit
You can add more locations in settings, but Wallet Pass proximity behavior uses up to 10 valid locations per pass.
Location text priority
If you set a Notification Text on a location, that text is used for that location on Apple Wallet.
If you leave it blank, your Default Notification Text is used on Apple Wallet.
How to Get Latitude and Longitude from Google Maps
Open Google Maps and find your store.
Right-click the exact pin location.
Click the first item in the menu (the coordinates) to copy it.
Paste the values into Latitude and Longitude in Rivo.
What Happens After You Save
After saving, location updates sync to Wallet Passes automatically. In most cases, customers will see updates within a few minutes and do not need to reinstall their pass.
Edit or Move a Location Later
You can return to Wallet Pass → Settings → Store Locations at any time to:
Update name, address, or coordinates
Change location-specific notification text
Remove old locations and add new ones
Save after edits so updates sync to customer passes.
FAQ
Do customers get a notification every time they are near a store?
Not always. Device operating systems decide when and how pass suggestions appear.
Is this the same as a push notification campaign?
No. Proximity notifications are triggered by location and Wallet behavior, not by a scheduled campaign send.
What if I have more than 10 stores?
You can still manage locations in settings, but proximity behavior on a pass uses up to 10 valid locations.
