How Total Sales attribution works for Wallet Pass push notification campaigns
Wallet Pass push notification campaigns help you send time-sensitive messages to customers who have added your Wallet Pass. After a campaign sends, Rivo shows campaign reporting so you can understand how many customers received the message and how much order value was attributed to it.
This guide explains what the Total Sales number means and how orders are matched to a wallet pass push campaign.
What Total Sales means
Total Sales is the combined value of all orders attributed to that Wallet Pass push notification campaign.
It is not a lift calculation or a comparison against what customers may have spent without the campaign. If an order is attributed to the campaign, the full order total is included in the campaign’s Total Sales number.
For example, if three attributed orders have totals of $40, $75, and $120, the campaign’s Total Sales is $235.
How an order is attributed
An order is attributed to a Wallet Pass push notification campaign when all of these are true:
The customer was recorded as receiving a wallet pass push from that campaign.
The customer placed an order after the push was sent.
The order happened within your Wallet Pass push notification attribution window.
The order is connected to the same customer who received the wallet pass push.
Attribution is based on the wallet pass push being sent to the customer. The customer does not need to tap, open, or click the notification for the order to be attributed.
Attribution window
The attribution window controls how long after a wallet pass push Rivo can attribute a customer’s order to that push.
By default, this window is 5 days.
To review or update the window:
Go to Settings.
Open General.
Find Wallet Pass Push Notification Attribution Days.
Enter the number of days you want Rivo to use.
If the value is set to 5 days, an order placed up to 5 days after the wallet pass push can be attributed to that campaign.
Important details
Total Sales uses the full order total
When an order is attributed, Rivo counts the order’s full total in the campaign’s Total Sales. It does not count only the extra amount that may have been influenced by the campaign.
One order can be attributed to more than one campaign
If a customer receives wallet pass pushes from multiple campaigns during the attribution window, the same order can be attributed to each qualifying campaign.
This means campaign-level Total Sales numbers are useful for understanding each campaign’s attributed activity, but you should avoid adding multiple campaign totals together as if they were unique revenue.
Guest orders need a customer match
Rivo can only attribute the order when it is connected to the customer who received the wallet pass push. If a guest checkout is not matched to a known customer, it is not attributed to the campaign.
Total Sales is different from sent count
Campaign reporting can show:
Sent - how many wallet pass pushes were sent for the campaign.
Total Sales - the combined value of orders attributed to those sent pushes.
The sent count tells you campaign reach. Total Sales tells you the order value Rivo matched back to the campaign.
Example
Your attribution window is set to 5 days.
A customer receives Campaign A on Monday.
The same customer receives Campaign B on Wednesday.
The customer places a $100 order on Friday.
That order can be included in Total Sales for both Campaign A and Campaign B, because both wallet pass pushes were sent to the customer within the 5-day attribution window before the order.
FAQ
Does the customer need to tap the wallet pass push for sales to count?
No. Wallet Pass push campaign attribution is based on the notification being sent to the customer, not on the customer tapping or opening it.
Is Total Sales the same as incremental revenue?
No. Total Sales is the full value of attributed orders. It does not estimate what portion of an order was incremental.
Can the same order appear in more than one campaign’s Total Sales?
Yes. If more than one Wallet Pass push campaign qualifies within the attribution window, the same order can be attributed to more than one campaign.
