Setting Up a Multi-Variant Membership Gift With Purchase
Gift with Purchase lets you include a free product when a customer buys a membership tier for the first time. If the gift product has multiple options, you can select the eligible variants and let the customer choose the one they want before it is added to the cart.
How Variant Selection Works
You choose one gift product and one or more of its variants when configuring the benefit.
If you select one variant, that variant is added with the membership product.
If you select multiple variants, the customer sees Select Your Free Gift in the Rivo account widget when they click your membership add-to-cart link. They choose one of the eligible variants and click Add to Cart.
Only the variants you selected are shown to the customer.
The membership and selected gift are added to the cart together. The gift becomes free when the membership product is in the cart, and only one eligible gift is added per order.
Set Up a Multi-Variant Gift
In Rivo, open Memberships and select the membership tier you want to edit.
In Benefits, find Member Savings and select Gift with Purchase.
Select Create Reward. If a gift already exists, select Edit.
Enter the display name for the gift.
Under Product, select Click to Select Product.
Choose one product and select every variant customers should be allowed to receive.
Confirm the selection, set the gift to active, and save your changes.
The benefit is designed for first-time membership purchases. Use Member Gifts instead when you want existing members to claim free products as an ongoing membership perk.
Test the Customer Experience
Before promoting the membership, test the flow on your storefront:
Open the storefront page containing your membership add-to-cart link.
Select the membership tier.
Confirm that Select Your Free Gift opens in the Rivo account widget.
Choose each eligible variant in turn and confirm that it can be added with the membership.
Confirm that the gift is free in the cart or at checkout while the membership product is present.
If the selector does not appear, confirm that more than one eligible variant is selected and that the Rivo account widget is available on the storefront page.
FAQ
Can customers choose any variant of the product?
No. Customers can choose only from the variants you selected when setting up the gift.
What happens if I select only one variant?
The selected variant is added automatically with the membership, so the customer does not need to make a choice.
Can I configure more than one Gift with Purchase for the same membership tier?
No. Each membership tier has one Gift with Purchase benefit. You can edit its product and eligible variants at any time.
Will another gift be added if an eligible gift is already in the cart?
No. Rivo recognizes an eligible gift already in the cart and does not add a duplicate.
