Creating a Free Product reward

Go to the program where you would like to add the reward. In this example, we will use the Referrals program.

  1. From the Dashboard, go to Programs > Points

  2. Under Redeeming Points, click Add Another Reward

  3. Select Free Product

  4. Edit the reward to your preferences:

    1. Reward title

    2. Product (select the product to use as a free product reward)

    3. Reward

      1. Point amount β€” How many points to redeem the reward.

      2. Discount β€” How much discount does this reward give.

    4. Purchase Type

      1. Reward can be used for one-time purchases only.

      2. Reward can be used for subscriptions only.

      3. Reward can be used for both one-time purchases and subscriptions.

    5. Minimum Order Quantity: Set a minimum number of items that must be in the customer's cart for the reward to be applied. This is exclusive to Free Product rewards.

    6. Reward Expiration: Set issued rewards to expire after a certain amount of time (you can set the expiration time to a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 24 months)

Common questions

Can I set the advanced reward to be combined with other discounts?

Yes! You can follow our step-by-step guide on Rivo discount combinations and stacking.

Why can't my customers see the Free Product rewards they redeemed at checkout?

Rivo is not allowed to add products at checkout, so any Free Product reward must be applied to the cart before your customer proceeds to checkout.

Can I set both a minimum order quantity and a minimum order value for Free Product rewards?

No, these settings are mutually exclusive. You can set either a minimum order quantity OR a minimum order value, but not both for the same reward.

Can Free Product rewards be used with subscription purchases?

Yes, when creating the reward, you can specify if it can be used for one-time purchases only, subscriptions only, or both types of purchases.

Best Practices for Free Product Rewards

  • Feature the reward prominently: Add a deep link to your loyalty program on the product page of the item you're offering as a free reward. This can drive interest in your loyalty program.

  • Start with small items: Begin with lower-cost items as free rewards to assess customer interest before offering higher-value products.

  • Create exclusivity: Consider offering exclusive products that can only be acquired through your loyalty program to increase perceived value.

  • Communicate clearly: Make sure to clearly explain to customers that they need to add the product to their cart before checkout to apply the reward.
