Common questions

What is the purchase type of a discount?

Purchase type determines where your discount can be applied. By default, Rivo discounts are created for one-time purchases. If you manage subscriptions on your store, you can change the discount's purchase type to Subscription (for subscription purchases only) or Both (for both one-time and subscription purchases).

Can I change the purchase type of a discount that I've already created?

Yes, you can easily change the purchase type of a discount that you've already created. Simply go to the Points or Referrals programs settings and click Edit on the reward you want to modify.

Are there any limitations on the purchase type of discount?

You can only change the purchase type of a discount for the online store's discount rewards: Fixed Amount, Percentage Off, or Free Shipping. Please read the Conditions to change a discount's purchase type for more details.

Can I have multiple discounts with different purchase types at the same time?

Yes, you can have multiple reward discounts with different purchase types active at the same time. This helps you create targeted promotions for different customer segments, such as offering special discounts for subscribers while maintaining different offers for one-time purchasers.

How does the Subscription purchase type work?

When a discount code's purchase type is set to Subscription or Both, the code can be applied to subscription purchases. You can also control how many billing cycles the discount applies to by setting a number in the Recurring Payment Options. For example, if you set this to 3, the discount will only apply to the first three billing cycles of a subscription. If you set it to 0, the discount will apply indefinitely to all billing cycles.

Do I need a subscription app to use this feature?

Yes, to fully utilize the purchase type settings, you need to have a subscription app (like ReCharge or Bold Subscriptions) installed in your Shopify store. Without a subscription app, all discounts will behave as one-time purchase discounts.
